Situated in the heart of the Sumter National Forest, McCormick is the seat of McCormick County, South Carolina. Cyrus H. McCormick bought the property after the state's second richest vein of gold was discovered, later planning the town that was named after him on that site. Many of the buildings that were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s are still standing.
