Once a fishing village located along the northern coastline of Georgetown County, South Carolina, the town is now known primarily for its seafood restaurants, tourism, and as a retirement location. In the late 1800s, visitors to the area traveled from Conway or Georgetown down the Intracoastal Waterway by steamboat, which were known for the cuisine they served on board. Several former steamboat chefs settled in Murrells Inlet and opened restaurants.
