Trenton, South Carolina was established with the arrival of the railroad in the late 1860s and incorporated as a town in 1877, although the area was inhabited prior to that time, having served as a stagecoach way-station, with the Piney Woods Tavern offering beds and meals for travelers, including George Washington in 1791. The small town is located in Edgefield County.
