Situated along the South Fork of the Whetstone River, Milbank is the seat of Grant County, South Dakota. The city was founded in 1880 when the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway laid its rails into South Dakota, and named for Jeremiah Milbank, a railroad director. The city is the birthplace of American Legion Baseball, now played in all fifty states.
