La Vergne, Tennessee, was first settled in the 1700s. the post office was built in 1852, and the town was named La Vergne. The town was incorporated in 1860 and but had the incorporation rescinded in 1881 because there were not enough people to allow the town to organize. It was finally re-incorporated in 1972.
