The city of Cedar Park, Texas, is situated in both Travis and Williamson Counties and is a suburb of Austin. Originally peopled by the Tonkawa, Apache, Lipan, and Comanche Indians, the community was known as Running Brushy in the mid-19th century, named after the creek of the same name. It was later named Bruggerhoff, after a railroad official, but no one in town liked the name, given its strange spelling and pronunciation. In 1887, it was given the name it has today.
