Copperas Cove is a city located in three Texas counties: Bell, Coryell, and Lampasas. Shortly after its settlement in the late 19th century, residents applied for a post office under the name of "Cove" but their application was rejected because a Texas post office by that name already existed. The name "Copperas Cove" was then submitted, named for the mineral taste of the water in a nearby spring.
