Dalhart is the seat of Dallam County, although a portion of the city is in Hartley County, Texas. The city was founded in 1901, and its name relates to its location on the border of the two counties. Due to its position in the northwestern corner of the Texas Panhandle, it is known by Texans as a gateway to the Colorado Rockies.
