Decatur, Texas, is the county seat of Wise County, having survived a hotly contested election to determine which city would hold that position. Originally named Taylorsville in honor of General Zachary Taylor, but when the founding father became upset with the politics of then President Taylor, he petitioned to change it to Decatur in honor of naval hero Stephen Decatur.
