Ingleside is located on the southeastern tip of San Patricio County, on Corpus Christi Bay. Earlier names for the community have included Old Ingleside, Inwood, Ingleside Cove, Ingleside-on-the-Bay, Palomas, Cove City and Cove. It is thought that the city's current name was chosen by one of the primary property owners, John Vineyard, who named it after his ancestral home in Scotland. A community by the name of Ingleside on the Bay still exists, with a population of just over five hundred.
