Jasper is an east Texas town and the county seat of Jasper County. Originally known as Snow River or Bevil's Settlement, in 1835 it was renamed for William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolution.

Organized as a non-profit corporation, the Art League operates what was once the Morgan Hotel near downtown Jasper.
