Mount Pleasant, Texas, has served as the county seat of Titus County since 1846, mere months after Texas became a state. Originally inhabited by the Caddo Indian tribe, who were known as builders of burial mounds, the natives would talk about a “pleasant mound” in the are, which the settlers adopted. It was incorporated in 1900. Due to a contentious history with stills and violence, it is a dry city, meaning it is illegal to sell alcohol in the city limits.
