Nacogdoches is the county seat of Nacogdoches, Texas and sister city to Natchitoches, Louisiana. According to tradition, the city was named after one of two twin sons of a Caddo Indian chief, Nacogdoches and Natchitoches. According to legend, once they reached the age where they could rule their own tribes, their father sent Nacogdoches three days toward the setting sun while his brother was sent three days toward the rising sun.
