Richardson is a city within the Texas counties of Collin and Dallas. At the time of the American Civil War, the town consisted of a general store, a blacksmith shop and an inn. After the war, the new railroad bypassed nearby Breckinridge and the area that was to become Richardson became the new center of activity. William Wheeler donated land for a town site but declined to have the town named after him. Instead it was named for railroad contractor, E.H. Richardson.
