Wichita Falls is the seat of Wichita County, Texas. The city was named for the original falls on the Wichita River, which was destroyed in an 1886 flood. After nearly a century of visitors wanting to visit a falls that no longer existed, the city built an artificial waterfall beside the river in Lucy Park.
