Chesapeake is an independent city in the South Hampton Roads portion of the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, reaching from the state's border with North Carolina to the harbor area of Hampton Roads, adjacent to Norfolk and Portsmouth. The city was incorporated in 1963, the result of a consolidation of the city of South Norfolk and Norfolk County.
