Ellensburg, Washington, the seat of Kittitas County, was incorporated in 1883, having grown from the small trading post called "Robber's Roost." The owner of the trading post named the town "Ellensburgh" in honor of his wife, Mary Ellen amd dropped the "H" after pressure from the US Postal Service.
