Sheridan is the seat of Sheridan County, Wyoming. As with many towns in the Western part of the United States, its early industries were concentrated on cattle ranching, logging, coal mining, railroading, agriculture and small factories. Today, coal mining remains an important industry in the region, but other significant occupations are in the areas of education, health care, retailing, banking, law, and government.
