The Society of Divine Vocations consists of the Vocationist Fathers and Brothers and the Vocationist Sisters.
The Roman Catholic religious congregation of priests and brothers was founded in Italy by Father Justin Russolillo. The Vocationist Fathers were founded in 1920, and the Vocationist Sisters were founded in 1921. The chief charism of the Vocationist Fathers is one of identifying and fostering vocations to the priesthood and religious life, particularly among the less privileged.
The Vocationists work in Vocationaries primarily, as well as in parishes, schools, and missions.
The Society of Divine Vocation became a religious institute of Pontifical Right in 1947 and 1948. Both the Vocationists Fathers and Brothers, as well as Vocationist Sisters, live in communities and take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience while concentrating on the work of vocation. Believing themselves to be called by God as vocation experts, counselors and midwives in the Church, the Vocationists seek to help people develop discernment and to effectively answer the call of God in their lives. The ultimate goal of the Vocationists is to ensure that all of its members achieve perfect union with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and, through them, the world.
The goal that Father Russolillo set for members of the Order is to go out searching for vocations rather than waiting for them. The Vocationist Sisters (Sisters of the Society of the Divine Vocations) practice a strong community life and wear a religious habit.
Members of the Vocationist Family are active in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Philippines, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Pope John Paul II raised Father Justin to Venerable in 1997, and Pope Benedict XVI raised him to the honor of Blessed in 2011.
