The Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) is a Calvinist denomination founded in 1998 and made up of more than a hundred member congregations from Presbyterian, Reformed, and Reformed Baptist backgrounds.
Originally known as the Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches, the Church Council voted to adopt the current name in 2011. The Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches has member congregations in the United States, Canada, Japan, Russia, Hungary, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Belarus, Poland, and Brazil, and is organized into seven presbyteries, each named for figures in Christian history, including Anselm, Athanasius, Augustine, Hus, Knox, Tyndale, and Wycliffe.
The CREC holds to traditional Calvinism, as promulgated in the Westminster Standards, the Three Forms of Unity (Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort), and the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. On other doctrines, in which Calvinists may differ, the CREC permits each member congregation to determine its own stance. Besides the doctrines listed above, CREC congregations may hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith, the American Westminster Confession of Faith, the London Baptist Confession, the Savoy Declaration, the Second Helvetic Confessions, the 39 Articles, and the Reformed Evangelical Confession.
The CREC practices covenant renewal worship, in which the order of worship is modeled on the structure of biblical covenants and sacrifices.
The CREC affirms the traditional Bible teachings that marriage is between one man and one woman, and that there are two sexes, male and female, and stands against attempts to confuse the clear teachings of Scripture in these matters.
The focal point of this guide is on the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches. Ordinarily, websites representing local churches are listed in the Local & Global category that corresponds to the location of the church, but those with significant information about the CREC may be listed here, as well.
