In many cultures and societies, flowers have been a traditional part of funerals. Floral arrangements brighten the otherwise somber space of the funeral home, so they are often provided as a part of the funeral arrangement. Friends and family members of the deceased also send flowers as a means of indicating they sympathy with deceased’s closest family members. This is so common, in fact, that some flower shops deal only in funeral flower arrangements, although they are a part of the services provided by most florists. Funeral and memorial wreaths are also common, and have been used at least since the time of Ancient Greece. In early Christian history, evergreen wreaths were used to represent victory of the eternal spirit over death. Wreaths are commonly laid at the graves of Armed Service veterans at Memorial Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, as well.
