British rock band Coldplay was formed in London in 1996. They changed the name to Starfish for a while but went back to Coldplay in 1998. The band’s music is eclectic, with most people ranking it somewhere between hard rock and soft rock as well as romantic or “emo”. They have turned down multi-million dollar offers from corporations asking their endorsement for sports drink Gatorade, clothing store the Gap, and for Diet Coke. They give 10% of their profits to charity, as they have done from the beginning of their existence. They have both spoken out against the U.S. invasion of Iraq while but have endorsed Democrat Barack Obama.
