Actor, producer, and politician Clint Eastwood was born in San Francisco, California May 31, 1930. After being drafted into the Army during the Korean War, he was on leave when the Douglas attack aircraft he was in ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean at Point Reyes, California. He and the pilot swam 3 miles to safety. He first came to the attention of the American people when he played Rowdy Yates in "Rawhide," the television cowboy series and made a very successful transition to movies. The former mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, he has long been active in politics and is a Libertarian. He has seven children by five women.
