Ann Arbor, of course, is known for the University of Michigan, which has two campuses within the city, known as Central Campus and North Campus. Founded in 1817, twenty years before Michigan became a state, U of M moved to Ann Arbor in 1837.

Concordia University also has a campus in Ann Arbor. It began as Concordia Lutheran Junior College in the early 1960s and changed its name to Concordia College when it began offering four-year degrees in 1976. In the early 2000s, it merged with Concordia University in Wisconsin, becoming its satellite campus in 2013. CUAA also operates a School of Nursing in the former Ann Arbor campus of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, located about two miles north of its main campus. Washtenaw Community College is just outside the Ann Arbor city limits.

Ann Arbor Public Schools operates PK-12th-grade public schools for the city of Ann Arbor, as well as parts of eight surrounding townships, through twenty elementary schools, two K-8th-grade schools, five middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, three alternative high schools, three preschools, and an adult education program. The Washtenaw Intermediate School District is also headquartered in Ann Arbor, although serving most of Washtenaw County, coordinating the efforts of local school boards.

Ann Arbor is also home to several private and religious schools. The Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor provides a Waldorf-based educational program for PK-12th-grade students. Also enrolling PK-12th-grade students, the Clonlara School offers a campus program, an off-campus program, and an online program. The Michigan Islamic Academy is a K-12th-grade Islamic private school

Greenhills School is an independent college preparatory school for students in 6-12th grades. Honey Creek Community School is a charter school offering a multi-age classroom environment for students of early elementary, middle elementary, later elementary, and middle school students.

Additionally, there are several private preschools and daycare facilities within the city, as well as other instructional programs, which are appropriate for this category, as well.
