Surrounding Lake Paradise, Carp Lake, Michigan is an unincorporated village in eastern Carp Pake Township, in the northern Lower Peninsula.

Carp Lake was listed as a census-designated place for the 2010 census, giving it a defined boundary for the purpose of the census, although its boundaries do not include the easternmost portion of the lake, which is in Hebron Township, Cheboygan County, although that area is generally considered to be part of Carp Lake.

The chief route through the community is US Highway 31, which is also known as Mackinaw Highway. US-31 leads to I-75 just north of Carp Lake. Levering is 4.4 miles to the south, Mackinaw City is 7.3 miles to the north, Pellston is 10.1 miles to the south, and the City of Cheboygan is 19.7 miles to the east of Carp Lake. Petoskey, the seat of Emmet County, is 28.7 miles south on US-31.

Octave Terrian is acknowledged as the founder of Carp Lake. He settled along the lake, then known as Carp Lake, where a railroad station was later established by the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad. On January 27, 1880, a post office was opened at Carp Lake, with Alpheus B. Hendricks as postmaster.

Originally known as Carp Lake, for the type of fish that abounded within the body of water, Lake Paradise covers an area of around 1,900 acres. The lake is popular among fishermen and noted for its bass, perch, northern pike, and walleye today. The Carp Lake River, a tributary of Lake Michigan, is fed by the outflow from Lake Paradise.

Due largely to Lake Paradise, as well as to several surrounding lakes and parks, Carp Lake is home to several vacation resorts, cabins, and guest accommodations. Just north of the census-designated area of Carp Lake, but generally considered to be within the community, the Mackinaw Club is a 310-acre golf course
