The term "faith" has various meanings, even when restricted to its theological definitions. It can refer to a body of belief, such as the Christian faith. More often, though, it refers to an attitude on the part of the believer, suggesting a strong belief and trust in God.

Similarly, "religion" has a variety of meanings, but religion includes ritual, social, and ethical elements combined with a belief in an unseen world, and most often a deity. In general uses, the term refers to a particular system of belief, faith, or worship, as in the Christian religion, although atheism often has elements of religion, as well.

"Spirituality" is even more difficult to define, as its definitions have evolved rapidly. Most commonly, it refers to a state of sensitivity to religious values.

In simple terms, "belief" can be defined as acknowledging the existence or truth of something, such as a belief that God exists, while "faith" denotes a strong belief and trust in God, and "religion" forms when groups of believers come together through shared beliefs, and "spirituality" is seen in those whose belief, faith, and religion has given them a sense of purpose.
