The county seat of Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio sits on the southern shore of Lake Erie. Named after General Moses Cleaveland, it was incorporated in 1814. In 1831, the spelling was changed to its current spelling so that it could fit a newspaper's masthead. John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil, made his money in Cleveland.
