Throughout the years, many Catholic movements, societies, congregations, orders, and movements have been influenced by the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Forming the large part of Roman Catholic Mariology, membership in Marian organizations have grown significantly in the 20th centuries, in part prompted by apparitions of the Blessed Mother, such as in Fátima. This category, and its subcategories, is a repository for all of these organizations, many of which are not otherwise related historically. Among these are the Sodality of Our Lady, formed in 1563 by members of the Society of Jesus, and the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, formed in 1673, and formally known as the Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Organized in 1705, the Company of Mary is also called the Montfort Missionaries. The Society of Mary was founded in 1801, and its members are known as the Marianists. Organizations associated with the Marianists include the Daughters of Mary Immaculate and the Marian Alliance. The Marists were founded in 1816, and the Marist Brothers (1817) was founded by a priest of the Marist Fathers. The Schoenstatt Movement was founded in Germany in 1914, while the Militia Immaculata was formed in 1917. In 1921, Frank Duff formed the Legion of Mary. The Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, founded in 1947, was transformed into the World Apostolate of Fatima as it grew into an international organization. A couple of years later, in 1949, Our Lady's Rosary Makers was formed, and they have distributed millions of free rosaries to Catholic missions over the years. The Mariological Society of America, also founded in 1949, is a theological society dedicated to the study of the Virgin Mary, and the Marian Movement of Priests began in 1972. Robert Fox founded the Fatima Family Apostolate in 1986. Others include, but are not necessarily limited to, the Religious of the Virgin Mary and the Queen of Angels Foundation.
