Primarily known for his songs and singing, Johnny Cash (February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003) was also an actor and author. He played both country and gospel, with smatterings of other genres, and his hits include “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line,” “Ring of Fire,” and “A Boy Named Sue.” He was born in Kingsland, Arkansas and named J.R. When he enlisted in the Air Force, they insisted he have a name instead of an initial, and he started using John R. He married Vivian Liberto in 1954, and they had four daughters and remained married until 1966. In 1968, he married June Carter, and they had one child. They remained married until June’s death in May of 2003. Johnny died less than four months after June of complications from diabetes.
