SEOMoz’s Trifecta – Used to Rank Quality Directories
News July 16th, 2008In July 2006, SEOMoz released their now famous page strength tool. The idea was to come up with a better metric for evaluating websites than PageRank. According to Seomoz, the page strength tool was “a better metric to quickly assess a site / page’s relative importance and visibility.” The page strength tool did indeed do this and as a result was a success and became very popular.
Aviva Directory then used this tool to build a list of the strongest directories. This list ranked general web directories using the page strength tool. It has become a popular resource, allowing webmasters to find quickly quality directories that are worth submitting to. It added an element of objectivity to the ranking of directories, which previously had been done either purely subjectively, or simply relying on foolbar Pagerank.
However, the page strength tool had a number of limitations and controversies surrounding it. To deal with some of these issues, today SEOMoz has released a new tool to evauate websites, the Trifecta.
We have now had a chance to run this test on most of the directories listed on our strongest directory list. Here are the results, sorted by score (price in brackets):

Its amzaing to submit links in all but are all directories helpful for getting top in google. I am submitting in many paid directories and not very much satisfied. Will you please recommend me so best paid directories which really improves our ranking.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:17 am
If SEOMoz was to come with a new tool other than pagerank then atleast they should have got some parameters of their own instead of once again relying on the third party stats. Now Technorati is showing 0 links at the moment instead of normal 1500 for allydirectory.com. How much will it effect my score in that case. Sorry but i am not impressed with the new tool. Frankly, it’s just YAWT (Yet another webmaster tool).
Since last few weeks the tool has not been working at my end Jeff! Everytime i visit it, it show me that only one report per day is allowed for guests. Despite me visiting it after 15 days! Today when i ran a check, the score for allydirectory.com was at 26%. So i think my dir will be moved up some places..haan Jeff ;)
August 19th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Sharat, yes the tool does not seem to be working well lately. I think it would be a good tool if it actually worked :-D I’m not sure yet whether it is better than the old page strength tool.
August 19th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Hey Jeff,
You might include Capterra in your rankings. It’s a business software directory (is that too niche for this list? Not sure) that was consistently getting 6.5s and 7s on the old Page Strength tool. I’m not sure what it has on Trifecta since I don’t have a membership, but I would guess at least the 30s, maybe 40s. In terms of price I think it’s “free/bid for placement.”
August 21st, 2008 at 3:28 am
Hi JM,
Nice directory, but it’s a bit too niche, sorry.

As far as I know, Google refuses to give paid links a positive ranking factor. If your article points in direction of SEO, there´s no good reason for most of ´em.

These directory’s look very good but the problem is that they all cost MONEY to have an entry.I find from my site logs that about 90% of my traffic from search comes from
Goggle, yahoo,& msn. so as far as I am concerned as I don’t sell from the site & even if I did it would be a waste of time to pay to submit to them. Not only that I have been using the net with my (own sites 3-4 years) for about 12 years & had not heard of most of them. so what chance of the average user using any of them as a preference to the main 3 in my logs…
