Psychics are people who are able to identify information hidden from normal senses using a paranormal talent or gift known as extrasensory perception (ESP), sometimes referred to as the sixth sense.

The word "psychic" is used as a noun to describe a person who possesses ESP, and as an adjective to describe the abilities. In other words, a psychic has psychic abilities.

The word "psychic" is derived from the Greek word psychikos, which is translated, "of the mind" or "mental," and refers to the human mind or psyche. The Greek word can also be translated as "soul," because in Greek mythology, the maiden Psyche was the deification of the human soul.

Sometimes elaborate systems of divination and fortune telling were developed in ancient times, astrology being the most widely used by early civilizations. However, fortune tellers were said to be able to make predictions without the use of these elaborate systems, and these people were known as seers or prophets and, later, as clairvoyants and psychics. In early civilizations, seers often served as official advisors, priests and judges. Several examples are included in biblical accounts.

One historical reference that still enjoys a great deal of credibility is the prophecies of Michel de Nostredame, commonly known as Nostradamus today. Interest in his predictions is still high, although skeptics argue that the associations made between his predictions and world events are the result of deliberate misinterpretations, or so vague as to be useless as genuine evidence of predictive power.

In the mid-1800s, modern spiritualism became popular in the United States and in the United Kingdom, particularly the idea that the dead could be contacted by mediums to give insight to the living.

Introduced by Helena Blavatsky, theosophy combined spiritualism with Eastern mysticism, influencing the New Age movement of the 1970s. By the late 1900s, psychics were associated with New Age culture, and psychic readings continue to be popular.

Closely related to psychics, and perhaps a form of psychic phenomena, are mediums and those who channel the spirits of the dead. A medium might be thought of as a psychic who has developed his or her skills in extrasensory perception in order to be able to communicate with spirits in other dimensions. They are able to feel or hear thoughts or voices, and receive mental impressions from the spirit world. As the name might imply, a medium is the go-between between the living and the dead. Mediumship differs from channeling in that the primary goal of a medium, generally, is to provide evidence to a loved one that their family member or friend still has an existence after death, and perhaps to convey a message from the spirit of the deceased loved one to the living. Usually, the messages are brief and the medium does not necessarily understand the significance of the message, although this is not always the case.

A medium is a living person who communicates in some manner with the spirits of dead people. This may be in the form of a seance or the medium may communicate directly with the dead.

Channeling is similar, but different. A channel is a person who allows a non-physical entity to enter his or her body for the purpose of communicating with a living person. The channel may or may not be conscious of the information that is transmitted through him or her. So, a medium is a psychic, but a psychic is not necessarily a medium. A channel has a similar gift, but the gift may or may not be psychic in nature, given that the channel serves as a form of a receptacle for the person or entity being channeled.

Although many people believe in psychic abilities, and there are several practicing psychics, the scientific consensus is that there is no proof of the existence of psychic powers, classifying the practice as a pseudoscience. Critics attribute claims of psychic powers to intentional trickery or to self-delusion.

Psychic abilities are common in science fiction, where it is sometimes referred to as psionics.

Famous psychics have included Edgar Cayce, Peter Hurkos, Ingo Swann, Sylvia Browne, Youree Dell Harris (Miss Cleo), John Edward McGee Jr. (John Edward), Nanet Lee, and Tyler Henry.

Goat in a Tiger's Skin:

The world is full of people of every kind; there are good and bad ones, kind and cruel, rich and poor. Just like that there are authentic people and fake ones-the goats in the tiger's skin.

The world is full of these goats and so is the psychic industry. There are people who pretend to be a real psychic and prey on helpless people who really need help and guidance. An estimated 3 out of every 4 psychics are the fake ones. Greed is the main reason for their acts for they charge heavy fee from the clients for their services. The true Light workers spend years of their lives in developing their psychic abilities to help others. But there are others who claim to be a real psychic but in reality they know nothing or little about these abilities. Following are some of the practices that these fake psychics use to deceive people:

1. They use the fear strategy to make fool of others i.e. they tell them they are cursed or have a dark presence around them.

2. They tell the people that they can cure them with additional fee which is often a hefty amount.

3. They claim to bring back the loved and the lost ones of the client.

4. They manipulate their clients by asking them many questions which the client should not or need not to share.

5. They always use negativity to retain the clients for heavy charges.

The Real Tigers:

As mentioned above true Light workers spend years to master their psychic abilities and to give authentic and clear readings to their clients. They are blessed with abilities to become accurate psychic medium. They are the real tigers of psychic industry. Because of them, people believe in psychics and their readings for their true knowledge benefits them. Every psychic has his own specialty in which he masters. There are clairvoyants, clairaudients, clairsentient, remote-viewer, lucid projector & dreamer, mediums, telepaths and psychic surgeons to name a few. Every one of them use their own means to give their readings and satisfy their clients.

Real psychics use their active sixth sense along with sharpened 5 senses for their readings. Because psychic reading is all about how awake and how aware you are to sense the hidden meanings. Following are some of the practices common among authentic psychic mediums:

1. Instead of using fear strategy, they always show the brighter side to their clients. And they do not give negative readings without any solid reason.

2. They give honest and complete readings. They do not manipulate the clients and are straight forward with them.

3. They give personal information to their client which is not common. This shows strength of their connection with the client.

4. Instead of asking too many questions, they give answers only. They do not ask leading questions.

5. Real psychics do not beat their drums that they are famous and famous leaders consult them.

6. They do not expose themselves because of the fear that their powers may be exploited for wrong purposes. They are not easy to find.

7. They do not inject their personal opinions but only provide answers to the questions.

8. Real psychics are very ethical and remain in the boundaries while giving their readings.

9. They have real concern for their clients and try their best to help their clients but they never make false promises. They are always honest.

Protection against the Scams:

There are some simple rules for protection against the fake psychics. A person's common sense plays most important part in differentiating between a real and a fake psychic. The above mentioned practices help in differentiating between them. However, there are some other tips and techniques which ensure further protection:

1. Research is the most important aspect of protection against these scams. If you want to seek a psychic, do your research ahead of time and look for the psychics who are authentic and reliable & have verifiable reputation.

2. When in a session with a psychic, keep an eye on your surrounding and do not let him manipulate you and ask for your personal information. Just as you do not share your personal information with other service providers like doctor or mechanics, do not share it with a psychic as well.

3. If you ever get email with subjects like "you have been cursed" or "seek guidance," do not respond to them for you would confirm your existence to them. These online fake so-called psychics then charge you for their services.

4. Recording the session with the psychic is the best way to sort out if he is a fake or real. Some psychics do not object on such requests, but the ones who are playing games will give excuses. The most important part is the client should use his own equipment for recording.

5. Finally look for the psychic's specialty i.e. what are his mastered psychic abilities. Because as mentioned above, every psychic has his own abilities and has his own field of readings and sensations. Some are fortune tellers, some are mediums and others are healers. Identifying their ability will help you to differentiate if he is an authentic psychic medium or just another GOAT IN TIGER'S SKIN.
